GP Lessons.

Not climbing related but, I found this on a website.... It's damn funny, like, whatever.

Every year, English teachers from across the country can submit their collections of actual analogies and metaphors found in high school essays. These excerpts are published each year to the amusement of teachers throughout the land.

Here are last year's winners

  1. Her face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had its two sides gently compressed by a Thigh Master.
  2. His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without Cling Free.
  3. He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it.
  4. She grew on him like she was a colony of E. Coli, and he was room-temperature Canadian beef.
  5. She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up.
  6. Her vocabulary was as bad as, like, whatever.
  7. He was as tall as a six-foot, three-inch tree.
  8. The revelation that his marriage of 30 years had disintegrated because of his wife's infidelity came as a rude shock, like a surcharge at a formerly surcharge-free ATM machine.
  9. The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn't.
  10. McBride fell 12 stories, hitting the pavement like a Hefty bag filled with vegetable soup.
  11. From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you're on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00 p.m instead of 7:30.
  12. Her hair glistened in the rain like a nose hair after a sneeze.
  13. The hailstones leaped from the pavement, just like maggots when you fry them in hot grease.
  14. Long separated by cruel fate, the star-crossed lovers raced across the grassy field toward each other like two freight trains, one having left Cleveland at 6:36 p.m traveling at 55 mph, the other from Topeka at 4:19 p.m. at a speed of 35 mph.
  15. They lived in a typical suburban neighborhood with picket fences that resembled Nancy Kerrigan's teeth.
  16. John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.
  17. He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant, and she was the East River.
  18. Even in his last years, Granddad had a mind like a steel trap, only one that had been left out so long, it had rusted shut.
  19. The plan was simple, like my brother-in-law Phil. But unlike Phil, this plan just might work.
  20. The young fighter had a hungry look, the kind you get from not eating for a while.
  21. He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck, either, but a real duck that was actually lame, maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.
  22. The ballerina rose gracefully en pointe and extended one slender leg behind her, like a dog at a fire hydrant.
  23. It was an American tradition, like fathers chasing kids around with power tools.
  24. He was deeply in love. When she spoke, he thought he heard bells, as if she were a garbage truck backing up.

Asian X Games 2006 @ KL
Hello everyone !!! Been so busy since i came back from KL that i din't have the time to post an article about my experiences at the X Games...
Anyway here are some photos for the competition venue.
Due to the horrendous rain on the first day, not all climbers managed to climb the routes and thus all of us were pushed into the finals whereby 1 round will decide the outcome of the event itself.

The event format was the same as a lead climbing competition with a total of 2 routes to climb. We were given time to observe the routes and had to tackle it individually. So give that it was only 2 routes, you can be sure that they are extremely hard. Anyway it was over before i even knew it and personally it wasn't too bad a performance :) Here is a picture of the 1st route which i dint do too badly on.

More pictures.....

I dropped by at Camp 5 for one and a half days of climbing after the games itself and in all honesty, i had more fun at the climbing gym hehe. It was big and badasssss !!!!! The climbing wall was really humongous and even though it din't look steep, trust me, it can make you realllllly pump :) ENJOY !!!!

ALL THE BEST FOR PUMPFEST !!!!!

Ok hello everyone... here are some of the pics that i've taken during Boulderactive, in random order... cos i'm not a blogging pro and don't know how to arrange them properly. If you want more pics can ask from me or the others k..

Ok i guess Philip has already discussed with us abt this comp.. hope it was a good experience for everyone. Well it's been almost a week since the comp has passed and all i can say is... my muscles and fingers are aching! how's everybody else's ? heh must've been becos of wednesday's training.. it was supposed to be light bouldering la. And the girls ended up doing dyno routes.. led by gary pek himself..hahaha.

So meanwhile, everyone, rest well. hope that saturday will be fun.

Till then,
Jack Sng

A Special Wednesday, March 22 2006

TODAY IS A SPECIAL WEDNESDAY BECAUSE THERE IS NO TRAINING!!! so sad la, i bet everyone feels very FREE. The club boys and girls went separate ways. The girls went to Changi Airport for Sakae Sushi Lunch Buffet, which is too expansive for we thrifty boys( okay, that applies at least to me). I guess the boys went to Plaza Singapura to check out the competition area to get themselves prepare for Friday's BOULDERACTIVE COMPETITION, after monitoring the year 1s on their bouldering session. Actually there is not much to check out, i think that the boys have hidden agenda... Or am i wrong? hahahaha.Okay and with that, we enjoyed out training-free wednesday......=)

ROCK ON: where our march holidays went to...(PART I)

THE SUPPORTING CAST

THE COMPETITORS

OKay, this is part one of rOCK ON, the other part will come subsequently when i have time to fill in this blog( u peeps are most encouraged to volunteer to finish the rOCK ON series. Its beneficial because it helps to improve one's GP, hahahaha). Let me start off by giving the results from the past six days of hard work, long waits and mentally draining isolations.

For Day 1 and 2, the Novice Men's difficulty Qualifiers and Finals were held respectively. Our very own male training coordinator- TAN SHI HAN- emerged as the CHAMPION after defeating all the stressed-out and pressurized NUS experienced climbers. An amazing and applauding feat! Besides, there are also 2 other tjcian climbers( Leong Hong and YuanYean) that made it to the Finals out of the eight finalists. POWERrrr! Next up, in the novice Women's Difficulty Qualifiers and Finals held on the same dates, Huang Wanting and Cheong Jialing made it through to the Finals and Wanting emerged 5th and Jialing 7th.

For Day 3 and 4, the School individual Category Qualifiers, Semi-Finals-for the boys and Finals were held. For the boys, lao da, shi han, leong heng, jack and me got into the Semi-finals after which lao da, shi han and me proceeded to the Finals. I was rather unlucky in the Finals, where i slipped off a handhold and fell at the 3 clip, and ended up with a terrible rope burn under my arm.( rope burns are weird because they tend to become more painful when they are dry and recovering). Shi Han made it through and got to the part before the "roof", after which he didnt continue partially due to his injured shoulder. Still, he got 5th position whilst lao da and i got 6/7th position. For the girls, the competition went straight to the Finals on Day 4 where Elicia, Zhao Xiu and Wanting qualified. Zhao came in second while Eli was fifth. Zhao is really a mentally focused and steady climber after my observation from the past competitions, so fellow climbers, we must learn from her okay? Hahaha~~ ( other girls please don't be jealous??)

During the last 2 days of the competition( ar, finally coming to an end), the Inter-School Category commenced with both the 2 boys and 2 girls teams getting into the Finals, which came totally unexpected and surprising to many of us. Of course i am happy because it is really fun and enjoyable to get isolated with the girls. Its true, we started talking about nonsensical stuff and everyone tried to crack one joke or another.( Please don't say i flirt because i think most guys will agree, just that i got the guts to voice out this point right?) Initially, none of us expected any one of the guys' teams to come in as champion, especially when Ron left for tpjc( he had no choice, if given, i bet he would have chosen tjc). However, our championship came true! Both the guys' and girls' team came in first for the Inter-School U20 Finals. Everyone was high and tears of joy flushed out from Leong Heng's eyes. "Finally this day came after a long wait...." (To Leong Heng: what had happened to you in the past could be a blessing in disguise). Everyone cheered! After 5 or 6 years, our store finally had 2 new trophies! More importantly, it is contributed by us (the 05/06 batch of TEMASEK JUNIOR COLLEGE CLIMBING CLUB). I felt so proud and wanted to show off to my juniors ( I mean we can what!). Yet people, there should not be room for COMPLACENCY. This is not the end but a beginning to our future championships!( but no pressures) So, I , Gary, hereby want to extend a BIG THANK YOU to our coaches( Philip Lim and Jay Koh) who worked hard to train us, and tolerate our nonsense through the past few months, Miss Tiew, Mr Tan and Mr Lim( in random order) for always being there be it physically or mentally to spur us on and giving us your everlasting moral support and courage to face our failure. As well as being patient during the long waits for our turn to be on the wall even for very short moments. Your presence alone marks the difference between our climbing club and the other schools' climbing club. Also, not forgetting on behalf of the girlfriends, i would like to thank the BOYFRIEND ASSOCIATION for coming to support your "spouse". Maybe it could be you being able to be there that boosted your lady's climbing performance! Lastly every good show comes with an excellent supporting cast. To people like Victor, Enci, I am really impressed. Seriously, when i said "i'll always be behind you(competitors)" they are the ones that really live up to the statement. Be it a simple message or whatsoever, they always make you feel their presence and all-out supporting spirit. Of course, not forgetting the rest that came, i am also very impressed that some of you can put aside other commitment and come down to support, cheering for us and taking some of our cool pictures. I really admired your dedication to the club. One way or another we contributed to this closely-knitted family of ours, watching out for one another, tolerating one another's nonsense and insensitivity. Maybe this is what they call the kindred spirit. After saying these, i wish that we will remain together now and forever! So everyone lets train hard and strong, at the same time strengthening our bonds within the last few months of our climbing career. =)
